I started the day off by winning a contest for passes to see INXS do an acoustic session. I took my JD-loving friend and we saw JD, Kirk and Andrew play an acoustic set from 8 feet away. JD is still battling a cold so just 2 songs but it still sounded great. I wore my Lovehammers shirt and JD joked "I-N-X-S, you spelled it wrong on your shirt" and then he signed my CD with "Nice shirt!" He seemed really at ease with the band and such a nice guy in person.
The Denver show started at 8pm exactly. Bobby started off on drums then Dino and Billy walked out and I yelled "Dino"! Marty started off down low doing the wavy arms and there were some professional photographers taking an absolute ton of close-up pictures of him. Marty said that we were the craziest crowd so far, because even though smaller (5,000) than L.A. and Vegas, people were up on their feet. I saw quite a few people standing, especially early and late in the set. He thanked everyone for showing up early, he said he knows fans don't have to do that and he really appreciates it. I climbed over a few seats to get into front row for the last 4 songs. My husband was further back and had a really good view, he said that the band is just really good live. We got a couple of picks that Dino had thrown into the crowd.
At the merchandise booth there was a sign for a 10:45 autograph signing by Marty Casey & Lovehammers, Marty also mentioned it during the performance. We knew from other reports that we had to get to the lobby earlier than that. I saw Dino in the crowd during INXS and introduced myself. He shook my hand and said "Hi, I'm Dino", such a nice guy. The timing was perfect by the time we got to the lobby half an hour before the scheduled signing. Bobby was standing with Dan Howard and fans Jezza, Maryanne, Kathy, and Heidi and there weren't many people out in the lobby yet. He was kind enough to pose for a picture with me and my friend Jennifer. Bobby was nice and warm, lots of body heat. A few minutes later, Marty walked out and headed for the outside door to make a phone call. There were more people around by then and all eyes were on Marty. We waited a minute when he came back in and then I got up close and waited for my chance. Luckily my friend was looking out for me and kept prodding me on and then asked directly, "Marty can we have a picture with you?" She's the best. Make sure you bring a polite but persistent friend like mine to help you when you're trying to walk that fine line between being respectful and getting your picture. We were probably one of only a handful or so to get pics.
At 10:45 the autograph session started. As anticipated, there was a sign saying "No Photos" next to the line near the merchandise area and a tour manager guy came down the line to let everyone know that there would be no pictures so that everyone could have a chance. It really makes sense because the line was so long, it wrapped around forever and more people kept joining the line constantly after INXS was finished until it seemed like no way they could ever finish. Lots of people in INXS shirts were in line too and hopefully many bought the Lovehammers CD to be signed. Another rule besides no photos was they'll only sign CDs, but of course they signed whatever people had, though it was mostly CDs. Marty told me "nice shirt" and I apologized for the bootleg handmade shirt but he said "no, we love that". I asked Billy if his family is coming out for the Chicago show and he said they'll make a whole day of it, he really sparkles in person with a little mischief in the eyes. Jeremy was there the whole night working (& handing out some mc.org wristbands) and Dan Howard was taking care of LH business as always, it seemed like things were going really smoothly. I think they took a couple of pictures for the moblog. I took a picture just to show how large the meet and greet became. I think they stayed until everybody in line had their turn.
For everyone further down the line on this tour, I hope you get your chance to say hello to the guys. I feel like things are taking off for them! Call your radio stations, request on VH1, spread the love. LOVEHAMMERS!!! -- snappy (Kate)
