For week 6 song selection, INXS threw everyone for surprise by presenting them with an envelope with the song they had selected for them to do that week along with a note explaining why. The selection of "Baby One More Time", a well-known pop hit of Britney Spears, came with this note: "Marty, And now for something completely different...a pop song. We need to see you perform a song that is not so serious. This song is not as simple as it may seem. It has a great melody that is not necessarily easy to sing. There is no angst here....yet you could sing in full of angst according to the lyrics or spoof it the way that Travis did. You decide. This is a great pop song and something different for you. Good Luck, INXS."

When Marty was handed the envelope, and he realized what song had been assigned to him, he had quite a reaction. Selected as one of the 30 Greatest Rock Star moments of the series, Marty's Scream Heard Round the World: "When Marty finds out INXS wants him to sing a Britney Spears song, he reacts by falling to the floor with a pained scream."
